Atkinson New Hampshire is nestled between Derry, Hampstead and Salem. The population as of the 2000 census was a little over 6,000 people. It was named to honor Col. Theodore Atkinson who owned a large piece of land on Providence Hill. Col Atkinson was a commander in the French and Indian wars and in 1748 was appointed Secretary of the New Hampshire colony.
